Yesterday, during Integrated Studies, the Preps learnt about rangoli. A rangoli is a colourful design made on the ground (using colourful rice) in the front of a house to welcome guests during celebrations, such as Diwali in India. The Preps made their own rangoli design on a piece of paper, after discussing the use of patterns, colours and shapes in rangoli designs. Students then went outside and drew their designs on the concrete outside the Prep area.

Book Week Celebrations

Today, the students at Moreland Primary School celebrated book week. Students participated in the parade and found out which book won each book of the year category . Shortly after, the Preps meet up with students from the senior school and completed book week activities. The Wombats listened to the story “Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas” by Aaron Blabey and then made their own piranhas with help from students from the PBL program.

Lastly, thank you to all of the parents who helped with the pizza lunch. It was delicious!

Don't forget to dress up as your favourite character on Monday for our special Book Week Assembly. If you have a copy of the book your character is in, you might want to bring it in as well to share with everyone.

Also, for those who have bought their pizza order forms back, don't forget to bring your money for your slices.

Gold Medalist Olympian Visit

On Monday, the Preps were lucky enough to have a visit from an Olympic gold medalist. Katie Allen won her gold medal playing field hockey for the Australian Hockeyroos in the Sydney 2000 games. She talked to the preps about what winning a gold medal requires (determination, persistence, resilience, team work and being healthy) and her experiences playing hockey. Students were able to touch the gold medal (which was rather heavy) and look at her tools (hockey stick, ball) and her team uniform.
